“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
I’m a bit of a Lord of the Rings and Tolkien fan…I mean like nerd level. I have even participated in the Tolkien Fandom Oral History Collection that is being put together by Marquette University.
The above quote is one of my favorites because there is a sense of danger, but also of excitement and adventure that goes along with it. It also is applicable to so many areas of life. Even marketing….
Marketing is often seen as the aspect of business that is fun to do. People want to “do marketing” because they think they’ll enjoy putting together a storyboard for a video – regardless if they have the necessary background and experience in it. And yet, that can be dangerous on multiple levels.
There is the danger of being swept away from what they should really be focusing on. The opportunity cost of a Production Supervisor working on a marketing project is that he or she isn’t doing what they are paid to do – making sure production is running smoothly. There is also the danger of doing the wrong thing – this could cost a company a ton of money or simply waste time.
But that’s where companies like TRG can be helpful.
We offer access to a team of marketing professionals who integrate strategy with tactics; connect the dots between your website, social media and online ads; or revitalize your brand in an increasingly competitive playing field. And all of this is possible without taking your people away from what they do best…and without having to hire additional staff.
We’d love to join you on your adventure and help guide you on your way.
Feel free to email me directly if you’d like to talk about how TRG might be able to help you, or even if you just want to talk Lord of the Rings. I’m always up for either conversation.
